Meet Our Fully Awesome, New Full-Stack Developer Amanda Fox

As you may know, we announced big news yesterday: Presence has merged with Modern Campus — another game-changing higher education tech company.

But this team-up doesn’t mean that our growth has stopped. Far from it. In fact, joining Modern Campus will enable us to grow even faster, reaching more institutions with innovative solutions to 21st-century challenges. Our first exciting growth is through the development team, AKA the folks who design and build the software behind Presence.

Today, we’re welcoming Amanda Fox as a full-stack engineer. Her work will be integral to the Presence experience for SA pros and their students. She can’t wait to wow you, along with the rest of our hardworking developers.

But first, let’s get to know Amanda a bit. Below, she reveals why she’s so excited to join the Presence team, why she’s similar to a mountain goat, and why, if she weren’t a developer, she’d totally run away and join the circus.

What led you to Presence?

Corona seems to have changed the direction of many people’s lives including my own. I made the prudent decision to go in a new direction in the technical field of web development. When looking for developer jobs I was hoping to find a place where I felt at home.

Presence is the place that feels like home. My earlier job experience was teaching and when I came across Presence, the idea of combining my previous teaching experience and new passion to become a developer delighted me. Once I saw how welcoming and supportive the team was during the interview process, I knew this was the company for me.

How do you see this position fitting into your future career? What benefits or experiences do you hope to gain from working at Presence?

As a new developer, I am so excited to find a position that will challenge me and work hand-in-hand with my passion for student success. The progressive and engaging environment at Presence will encourage my continued growth and learning. The world of web development is vast, but I am ready to continue my exploration. To infinity and beyond!

Where did you attend school? What was your major(s)? Were you involved with any co-curricular or extracurricular activities?

I attended school at Appalachian State University. My major was psychology with a minor in statistics and primatology.

During my time there, I was very involved with rock climbing and loved hiking. You know, basically a mountain goat!  I also worked at the College of Education Department of Digital Teaching & Learning Center.

Since graduating with a bachelor’s, I have continued my education by taking multiple courses at local universities. I recently graduated from a Suncoast Developers Guild in St. Pete, Florida.

Why are you excited to be a part of the Presence team?

The interview with Presence was unlike any I had in the past. Each interview I went through, I fell in love with the company, the culture, and the people more and more. I always thought I was crazy for thinking I would find a company and people that would share my passions and goals. Well, call me crazy because I found that needle in a haystack! I really couldn’t imagine such a great company and team to be joining. I can’t wait to start learning, growing, and creating at Presence.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy going to markets in the area to support local businesses. I have been teaching myself ukulele, mandolin, and piano.  I like to stay healthy and active by participating in soccer, running, and occasionally tennis. You can find me any weekend at food events in the area stuffing my face into a food coma. Tampa and St. Pete have proven to have a great variety of tasty food.

What is something you’ve always wanted to try? What are some goals you have in the future you’d like to accomplish? Why?

I have always wanted to learn aerial acrobatics. I think it would satisfy my childhood fantasy of running away and joining Cirque du Soleil. I think it is such a beautiful form of art and I really respect the people who perform it.  I would also love to join or create a folk band. Music has really been a great outlet for me in the past years, and it would be incredible to perform.

Welcome, Amanda! We’re so excited to have you on board.
