As a tech company that’s highly invested in the user experience, Presence understands the top challenges and optimistic goals faced by student affairs professionals.
Most of us have been there ourselves! The majority of us have degrees in higher education and have worked engagement magic at institutions of all shapes and sizes as full-time student affairs professionals.
But, let’s face it: #SApros aren’t typically computer coding geniuses. If you want someone to lead a quick icebreaker, resolve a student org’s conflict, or design a new engagement initiative, we’re your people. Yet, if you need someone to manipulate HTML, fix software glitches, or solve other tech problems that most laypeople can’t even name, then you likely call someone else.
That’s why, in order to provide institutions worldwide with superior data-focused tools, the Presence team also needs folks who’ve studied the ins and outs of software development. Our team (and product) excels, thanks to people who not only understand the hard technical skills of computer programming but who can also anticipate challenges with user experiences and think boldly to design the best possible solutions.
So, today, we’re thrilled to announce the multi-talented tech wizard who just started leading the self-proclaimed nerds of our development team. We’re welcoming Thomas Green III as our new Chief Technology Officer.
Thomas is no stranger to leading tech teams, having done so across multiple industries for over 25 years. These include stints leading software and technology teams at EA Sports, AAA, and Disney. He’s even been a CTO for Microsoft. (Yes, that Microsoft.)
To learn more about Thomas’s incredible pre-Presence experiences, along with his vision for the company’s tech future, check out our announcement here.
Meanwhile, we also wanted to learn more about who Thomas is personally. So, we asked him some more light-hearted questions, too. Below, check out his thoughts on skiing, homebuilding, and more.
Welcome on board, Thomas! Maybe next you’ll help us build a theme park to rival Disney’s!
Q: What led you to Presence?
A: Presence was brought to me by someone I have very high regard for and what they were looking for seemed tailored to my skill set. I am an avid technologist and believe deeply in continuing education. The blend of technology and education brings a fascinating opportunity to impact one of the oldest services.
Q: What benefits or experiences do you hope to gain from working at Presence?
A: The enthusiasm I have seen since engaging with the members of Presence is awe-inspiring. [Founder & CEO] Reuben Pressman has garnered an ability to get his team past the hurdles and affect an almost sticky positivity. While I have built teams that will follow me through fire, this is truly something I feel can take my team building to the next level.
Q: What impacts do you hope to make on Presence? How do you hope to help move the company forward?
A: I have a background growing teams and companies and hope to influence the growth of Presence from a technology perspective and from a business perspective as a whole. Presence seems hungry for process and methodology within and around the technology area. I hope to be the catalyst for that process and methodology and to build a strong delivery engine that my peers, supervisees, and Reuben can swear by.
Q: Where did you attend college? What were your major(s)? Were you involved with any co-curricular or extracurricular activities?
A: I started my education at Seminole State College and finished it at The University of Florida. I majored in mechanical engineering. I played football.
Q: What do you like to do outside of work?
A: I am an avid water seeker. I dive, boat, jet ski, ski, and swim. I also weight lift daily and spend time making customizations to my Jeep Wrangler. I travel when possible, have the best dog on the planet to share my experiences with, and do what I can to be the best father I can to my amazing kids.
Q: What is something you’ve always wanted to try? What are some goals you have in the future you’d like to accomplish? Why?
A: I have always wanted to participate in building a school or hospital in a developing country. I have been so fortunate throughout my life, even when I thought things were not going well. I have the overwhelming desire to give back whenever I can. I want to build my dream home in the next three-five years. I know what I want, I know how to instill quality and I want the pleasure of knowing that it is one of a kind.
Welcome to the team, Thomas!
