A New Home for Presence

Check I’m Here hit a few milestones recently, one of them being moving to a new space in downtown St. Petersburg, Florida.

We announced the official opening of our space by celebrating a visit from St. Pete Mayor Rick Kriseman and joined by Presence friends and supporters at our ribbon cutting ceremony this past Friday.

Mayor Kriseman highlighted,

“We get to celebrate folks who are making an investment in our community. With the upcoming creation of an innovation district in St. Pete, Presence and Intrinio are perfect future partners to help grow it.”

Our company celebrated with co-working space partner, Intrinio, a financial data company focused on providing accessible data to financial investors, startups, and firms.

Staying in St. Pete

St. Peterburg is located at the heart of Tampa Bay’s startup community and we couldn’t imagine leaving our roots to move to another city. It’s often referred to as the “other bay” in reference to San Francisco Bay where many tech startups find themselves building a strong foundation. Tampa International Airport recently announced nonstop flights from Bay-to-Bay (Tampa to San Fran) because Tampa Bay’s technology community is growing at a rapid pace and the new direct flight will allow for more collaboration and remote work for people in the tech scene.

Founder and CEO of Presence, Reuben Pressman, attended the University of South Florida St. Petersburg extension and was the first to graduate with a degree in Entrepreneurship. With his strong network of support along with the emerging tech scene in St. Pete, it was a natural fit for him to build a company close to his alma mater.

St. Petersburg offers access to vast entrepreneurial talent, a supportive city chamber and commerce, and additional support from local organizations and resources.

Finding the Perfect Space

Our new bright blue office gives us room to grow, affording us to better serve the needs of our campus partners and team members. With a larger space, we’ve been able to hire new developers and happiness experts, growing our expertise to provide the best engagement software in the higher ed tech community.

Keeping in line with Presence’s value of transparency, our new space allows for open communication and increased brainstorming. It’s perfect for when we hire on new team members or offer shadowing opportunities other departments quarterly to get to know their fellow team members and their day-to-day work.

As we develop our values, we wanted a space that could reflect our continued growth, our range of team personalities, and how we’re best productive.

The new office encompasses 6000 square feet of space and features some unique and exciting perks including:

  • lots of windows that allow for natural light
  • large kitchen helps to build relationships
  • quiet rooms, including the forest room
  • washer and dryer
  • outdoor patio

One of our favorite items in the space include our desks. Our team often has conversations about physical, mental, and emotional health and decided that investing in adaptable desks were best for workplace self-care and efficiency. Why are they so special? All of the desks in the space are electronic and convert from sitting to standing and vice versa with just a push of a button. ?

Natural sunlight in the office is also a key characteristic we were looking for when considering a new space. It almost seems like common knowledge that taking a break outside or receiving adequate natural light exposure in an office space helps with overall health. In an article published by Forbes, it compared people who worked in an office with windows and those who had no windows and only artificial light. Those who had windows in their office received on average an extra 46 minutes of sleep per night, along with living longer and less physical ailments.

It’s also dog-friendly, a particular perk that reflects the community of St. Pete. The Tampa Bay area was rated #1 in the country as the most friendliest pet cities: St. Pete has dog-friendly restaurants, bars, beaches, and parks (and now our office).

As we continue to form and create our values as a company, we’re excited to be in an environment where Presence team members are encouraged to do their best work.
