The start of spring may still be a few weeks away, but at Presence, new growth is already beginning.
Today we’re welcoming Santiago Vargas, our newest Junior Data Engineer. As a key part of the development team, Santiago will work to grow the Presence platform.
We’re excited to have Santiago joining the Presence team. To get to know him a little better, we asked him to tell us a bit about his goals and interests outside of work. Check out what he had to say in this Q&A:
Q: What lead you to Presence?
I found Presence accidentally but once I did, I liked what I saw! I was interested in the data-driven approach to student engagement, charmed by the allure of working in downtown, and convinced by the diverse and experienced team that I’m eager to learn from.
Q: How do you see this position fitting into your future career? What benefits or experiences do you hope to gain from working at Presence?
Having worked in data analysis roles for the past few years, I’m excited to take a different perspective and work on new puzzles. I hope to learn new techniques and gain a new appreciation for the work that goes into data acquisition, as well as maintaining and architecting workflows.
Q: Where did you attend school? What was your major(s)? Were you involved with any co-curricular or extracurricular activities?
I attended the University of Florida where I majored in statistics. During my time at UF, I was a part of a student volunteer organization and played intramural soccer.
Q: Why are you excited to be a part of the Presence team?
I’ve seen the impact that involvement can have on a student’s experience and am excited to help students and institutions be more successful. I am also excited for the continuous improvement that the team strives for since that lines up perfectly with my personal goals.
Q: What do you like to do outside of work?
I enjoy watching movies, playing board games, spending time with my dogs, listening to audiobooks, and baking.
Santi and his fiancée made some cool friends in Germany.
Q: What is something you’ve always wanted to try? What are some goals you have in the future you’d like to accomplish? Why?
I want to get into woodworking. Creating something new from raw materials is really rewarding and allows me to tap into my creativity in a way that I don’t normally get to. I would love to do more DIY projects around the house for similar reasons.
We’re thrilled to have you join us, Santi!
And if you’re looking to follow in his footsteps, check out our open roles — we’re hiring in most departments.
